KYBELLA IN NEW ORLEANS

Both men and women tend to be affected by submental fullness, or “double chin”. Now, thanks to Kybella®, a double chin treatment does not require surgery. Kybella is the only FDA-approved non-surgical injectable option for treating double chins. Kybella is the brand name of deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in our bodies that aids in metabolizing fat.

Kybella is designed for reducing submental fat, which is the fatty area that people often call a “double chin” in the middle of the upper neck just below the chin.

During your consultation in our comfortable New Orleans office, Drs. Hendrick and Velargo will carefully examine you to determine if neck liposuction or Kybella injections alone are sufficient to provide you with the results you desire.

In our New Orleans-based office, a series of Kybella injections are administered under your chin. Kybella is designed to dissolve the fat under your chin over time. This is a great option for younger patients with good skin elasticity who desire improvement in their double chin with minimal downtime.

Kybella is not necessarily for everybody. For some patients, neck liposuction may be a better option. If you have excess fat, skin or muscle bands in the neck, a neck lift, or facelift may be required along with neck liposuction to restore a tighter, more youthful appearance.

WHY CONSIDER KYBELLA?

KYBELLA CAN:

  • Eliminate or drastically reduce the appearance of your double chin.
  • Remove excess fat in the middle of the upper neck just below the chin.

CAN ANY DOCTOR PERFORM KYBELLA INJECTIONS?

Kybella injections should only be performed by a physician trained in the appropriate techniques for this procedure. It is also extremely important for the provider injecting Kybella to fully understand other options that may be more appropriate for you (such as neck liposuction or a neck lift). Drs. Hendrick and Velargo have been trained to administer Kybella injections and have an excellent knowledge base regarding head and neck anatomy, which makes them the ideal physicians to perform Kybella treatments. Additionally, they have been recognized as leaders in this innovative double chin treatment by WDSU, a local New Orleans news station.

HOW IS KYBELLA ADMINISTERED?

A series of Kybella injections are performed in the central neck area below the chin and above the Adam’s apple. The procedure is easily completed in our New Orleans office, and some numbing medication can be administered beforehand, if desired, in order to reduce discomfort.

Kybella treatments are often very quick and can be performed within about 30 minutes. Our preference is to start by administering numbing medication. After that, the Kybella injections take only a few minutes and patients are ready to walk out of the office with an ice pack in tow.

WHAT DO I DO IF I GAIN WEIGHT AFTER KYBELLA TREATMENTS?

If you do gain weight after Kybella treatments, there is no need to worry. In the clinical trials, all patients had their weight monitored very closely. Many patients maintained good results despite actually gaining weight and an increased BMI.

HOW MUCH KYBELLA WILL I NEED TO SEE RESULTS?

The total amount of Kybella used will be determined by you and Drs. Hendrick or Velargo after discussing your personal goals. Most patients typically need somewhere in the range of 2 to 4 treatment sessions spaced about 6 weeks apart. This depends on the amount of fat in the neck and each individual patient’s response to the injections. You may hear that some patients could possibly need up to 5 or 6 total treatments, but those patients are usually much better candidates for a surgical procedure — another reason to consult with an expert to find out exactly what your best option is.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER A KYBELLA TREATMENT?

Mild to moderate swelling is the most common side effect. Some bruising, soreness and numbness is also to be expected after Kybella. All of these are temporary side effects.  Patients are asked to avoid exercise and other strenuous activity over the first 24 hours, but no additional downtime is needed.

Drs. Hendrick and Velargo will monitor your Kybella progress and will provide you with full post-treatment instructions as your results continue to improve over a series of treatments.

HOW LONG DO KYBELLA TREATMENTS LAST?

Results theoretically last forever, because the fat cells that are dissolved are destroyed and are no longer able to store excess fat. Since Kybella is a brand new product, we do not know exactly how long the results will last. There have been good results over the past 3 to 4 years in the clinical trials showing that the results have held up well long-term.

WHAT IS THE COST OF KYBELLA TREATMENTS?

The cost is $1,500 per treatment session. The number of treatments needed depends on the amount of fat located in the double chin and how the patient responds to each Kybella session.
