Jeuveau in New Orleans

Jeuveau is a nonsurgical facial injectable that smoothes fine lines and wrinkles that have been caused by muscle activity. It does this by relaxing the muscle movement. Left untreated, the lines and wrinkles caused by muscle movement can deepen and remain present even when the face is at rest, often resulting from repeated facial expressions like smiling and squinting.

Jeuveau is a neuromodulator made of purified botulinum A toxin, which safely alters the transmission of nerve impulses in the muscles and allows wrinkles and fine lines to soften.

Jeuveau (900 kDa purified botulinum toxin formula type A) earned FDA approval in 2019. It is quickly becoming a popular alternative to BOTOX®, Xeomin®, and Dysport®. Jeuveau injections do not diffuse into the broader muscle tissue, which means the treatment stays in place, making it highly precise and effective.

At the New Orleans Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, Drs. Velargo and Hendrick are skilled Jeuveau injectors. Their experience allows them to examine your face and determine which muscles are causing the wrinkles. Then, they can plan the best locations for your injections so that you will look naturally younger and more refreshed. Jeuveau is a “lunchtime lift” that can quickly renew your appearance with no downtime required.

Botox® and Dysport® are other brand names of neuromodulators Drs. Velargo and Hendrick use. Often, they treat patients with more than one brand of neuromodulator to produce optimal results.

Jeuveau is FDA-approved for safe cosmetic treatment between the eyes. Injections into other areas of the face and neck are technically “off-label,” but rest assured that Drs. Velargo and Hendrick are skilled injectors in these areas as well.

Jeuveau is an excellent product for patients who have developed immunity to or are non-responders to Botox treatment.

What Can Jeuveau Accomplish?

Jeuveau is most effective on lines and wrinkles on the upper portion of the face, such as:

  • Frown lines of the glabella – the “11” between the eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet and lateral brow area
  • Horizontal forehead creases
  • “Bunny lines” on the nose

Patients often inquire about the “chemical brow lift.” Drs. Velargo and Hendrick are skilled in this technique that nonsurgically relaxes the brow depressor muscles, giving the brow about five to seven millimeters of natural lifting from the unopposed pull of the brow elevator muscle. However, they might recommend a surgical brow lift or forehead lift if Jeuveau alone cannot accomplish the desired results.

Jeuveau can also treat muscular hyperactivity in the lower face and neck in select patients. For example, it can help soften lines around the mouth, turn the corners of the mouth up, and even diminish the appearance of neck bands.

For lines and wrinkles that result from volume loss rather than muscle activity, we recommend dermal fillers such as Juvéderm®Juvéderm Voluma®Restylane®, Perlane®, Belotero®, or Radiesse®. Drs. Velargo and Hendrick might suggest the use of both types of injectables to diminish different kinds of wrinkles.

Jeuveau FAQs in New Orleans

We often recommend a combination of injectable products based on each patient’s unique goals. These products serve different purposes: Neuromodulators relax facial muscles, while dermal fillers add volume beneath the skin.

Your provider will use a tiny needle to inject Jeuveau into the designated areas. It causes a slight sting that is well-tolerated, and the injections themselves take no more than a few minutes. Drs. Velargo and Hendrick are believers in cool compress anesthesia, as well as acupressure techniques to make the injections as comfortable as possible.

If you wish, we will be happy to apply a topical numbing cream before your injections, though this is rarely necessary with Jeuveau injections. If you desire the numbing cream, we ask that you arrive approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment to give it time to take effect before the procedure. We have a tranquil, comfortable “quiet room” at our clinic for your enjoyment.

After your injections, you can go home or relax in the quiet room for as long as you desire.

In clinical studies, Jeuveau has shown to have a slightly more favorable safety profile than other neurotoxins. However, like Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin®, some rare but severe risks might come with using a neurotoxin to treat wrinkles. These can include:

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle weakness
  • Heart conditions

If you start to experience any of these side effects, call our office immediately.

The most common side effect of receiving Jeuveau is mild bruising, which you can avoid by stopping use of any supplements or medications highlighted by our specialists.

Jeuveau complications and risks are rare, and during your consultation, we’ll ask you a series of questions to determine what types of medications you’re taking and if any previous medical procedures could affect your treatments.

You should not have Jeuveau or other botulinum toxin type A injections if you are:

·       Pregnant

·       Intend to become pregnant soon

·       Breastfeeding

·       Have allergies or known sensitivities to botulinum toxin type A products

Other than a small cosmetic injection mark, treatment with cosmetic injectables should not make you look like you’ve had “work done.” Reducing muscle activity that causes dynamic wrinkles will still allow you to frown or look surprised without the lines, wrinkles, and creases separating the brows.

You can proceed with most of your activities, including returning to work, after leaving our office. Still, you may experience some minor tenderness and bruising at some of the injection sites, which will resolve themselves within a few hours or days. If there is any bruising, apply topical Arnica Montana to speed the resorption of any bruising.

We ask that you stay upright for approximately six hours after the injections. We also recommend that you don’t participate in strenuous activity for 12 hours. You’ll receive other instructions following your treatment.

The results of your injections will be visible within about three days, but the maximal results are apparent at approximately 14 days.

Jeuveau typically lasts three to four months, so many patients make the injections a regular part of their aesthetic care regimen.
