BOTOX IN NEW ORLEANS

Botox Cosmetic® is a non-surgical facial injectable that smoothes fine lines and wrinkles that have been caused by muscle activity. It does this by relaxing the muscle movement. Left untreated, the lines and wrinkles caused by muscle movement can deepen and remain present even when the face is relaxed, often as a result of repeated facial expressions like smiling and squinting.

Botox is a neuromodulator made of purified botulinum A toxin, which means that it safely alters the transmission of nerve impulses in the muscles causing wrinkles, allowing the wrinkles and lines of the skin to soften.

At the New Orleans Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, both Dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick are skilled injectors of Botox. Their experience allows them to examine your face and determine which muscles are causing the wrinkles. Then, they can plan the best locations for your injections so that you will look naturally younger and more refreshed. Botox is often called a “lunchtime treatment” because it can be done quickly with no downtime required.

Dysport and Xeomin are other brand names of neuromodulators that are utilized by Dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick. Often, they treat patients with more than one brand of neuromodulator to produce optimal results.

Botox has been safely used for many years and is FDA-approved for cosmetic treatment of crow’s feet and the area between the eyes. Injection into other areas of the face and neck are considered “off-label,” but rest assured that Drs. Velargo and Hendrick are skilled injectors in these areas as well.

WHAT CAN BOTOX ACCOMPLISH?

Botox is most effective on lines and wrinkles on the upper portion of the face, such as: Frown lines of the glabella – the “11” between the eyebrows

  • Crow’s feet and lateral brow area
  • Horizontal forehead creases
  • “Bunny lines” on the nose

Patients often inquire about the “Botox Brow Lift.” Drs. Velargo and Hendrick are skilled in this technique, whereby the brow depressor muscles are relaxed, giving the brow about 5-7 mm of natural lifting from the unopposed pull of the brow elevator muscle. It is possible; however, that Dr. Velargo or Dr. Hendrick might recommend a surgical Brow Lift or Forehead Lift if the desired results cannot be accomplished with Botox alone.

Botox may also be used to treat muscular hyperactivity in the lower face and neck in select patients. It can, for example, be used to help soften lines around the mouth, turn the corners of the mouth up, and even diminish the appearance of neck bands.

For lines and wrinkles that are caused by volume loss rather than muscle activity, dermal fillers such as Juvéderm, Juvéderm Voluma, Restylane, Perlane, Belotero, or Radiesse are recommended. Drs. Velargo and Hendrick might suggest the use of both types of injectables in order to diminish different kinds of wrinkles.

A tiny needle is used to inject Botox into the designated areas. It causes a slight sting that is well-tolerated, and the injections themselves take no more than a few minutes. Dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick are believers in cool compress anesthesia, as well as acupressure techniques to make the injections as comfortable as possible.

If you wish, we will be happy to apply a topical numbing cream before your injections, though this is rarely needed with Botox injections. If you do desire the numbing cream, we ask that you arrive approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment so that it can take effect before the procedure. We have a very comfortable and relaxing “Quiet Room” within the clinic for your enjoyment.

After your injections, you can go home or relax in the Quiet Room for as long as you desire.
