Juvederm

JUVEDERM IN NEW ORLEANS

Juvederm® is a dermal filler that diminishes moderate to severe lines, wrinkles, and folds on the face and neck. A smooth gels that glide easily into the skin, this facial filler is made of hyaluronic acid, a carbohydrate that is already present in the body.

Hyaluronic acid works by providing a framework to the skin by binding collagen and elastin together, then attracting water, for an overall anti-aging effect.

Each filler works in a slightly different way to target specific signs of aging, but Juvederm smooths lines and depressions while its sister product, Juvederm Voluma, adds volume where it has been lost. Juvederm and is typically injected more superficially and can be used for non-surgical lip augmentation/lip enhancement for fuller lips as well as volume replacement in the creases around the mouth and nose.

Dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick are both trained and skilled injectors who use facial fillers both medically and artistically, much like a sculptor, to provide you with a natural younger look. This requires the ability to determine the best areas for injections and how much filler should be used.

Other facial fillers include Juvederm Voluma, Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse and Belotero. Drs. Velargo and Hendrick may suggest that you use a combination of injectables, including Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin® to target more of the lines and wrinkles that are present. If surgery is necessary to achieve the result you want, they might recommend a facelift, neck lift, brow lift, or blepharoplasty (eyelid lift). Skin resurfacing can also help to smooth certain lines and wrinkles.

JUVEDERM FAQS IN NEW ORLEANS

Juvederm is ideal to correct:

  • Nasolabial folds – the folds that begin at the nose and end at the corners of the mouth
  • Marionette lines – the lines that begin at the corners of the mouth and end at the bottom of the chin
  • Thin lips, creating natural-appearing fuller lips
  • Sagging, wrinkled, or aged earlobes
  • Vertical smoker’s lines above the upper lip

A tiny needle is used for the injections, and the procedure takes less than 30 minutes. Lidocaine is contained in the injection formula in order to ease discomfort. Dr. Velargo and Dr. Hendrick are believers in cool compress anesthesia as well as acupressure techniques to make the injections as comfortable as possible. If you wish, we will be happy to apply a topical numbing cream before your injections.  If you desire the numbing cream, we ask that you arrive approximately 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment so that it can take effect before the procedure.  We have a very comfortable and relaxing “Quiet Room” within the clinic for your enjoyment.

After your injections, you can go home or relax in the quiet room for as long as you desire.

The results are visible immediately and will continue to show some improvement over the course of days as the product attracts water.

You can proceed with most of your activities, including returning to work, after you leave our office following injections with fillers. Most patients experience some minimal swelling, bruising, and soreness for a few days. You can cover any discoloration with makeup, apply cool compresses to reduce the inflammation, and apply topical Arnica Montana to speed the resorbtion of any bruising.

Juvederm injections last approximately 9-12 months, although some people have seen the results last longer.

In any case, the product stimulates the production of collagen in the skin, so less product may be needed for a similar result in subsequent maintenance injections.
