“Botox will turn you into an emotionless person.”
“Botox is toxic.”
“You’ll become addicted to Botox.”
If you’ve been considering getting Botox injections for quite some time, you’ve probably heard about these types of whisperings from concerned friends and family. While their intentions are pure and of genuine concern, these rumors or whispers are purely misconceptions born out of misinformation or negative anecdotal experiences from individuals who had Botox treatments that had gone awry.
The truth is, Botox is generally safe and effective at treating or improving the facial signs of aging. Most importantly, Botox treatments are FDA-approved for cosmetic use and for the alleviation of certain medical conditions.
In addition to that, Botox remains to be one of the most popularly requested procedures. This shows that getting Botox injections is safe. Of course, to clear any lingering doubts you may have, we at the New Orleans Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery will be putting the top five common myths to rest.
- Botox contains toxic and dangerous substances: FALSE.
While it’s true that Botox is derived from a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin A, what we use is a safe and purified form approved by the FDA for the use of facial enhancement procedures. We also inject small doses to relax only the target muscles that cause wrinkles, lines, and deep creases.
- Once you start getting Botox, you can’t stop: FALSE.
Botox doesn’t contain any addictive substances, so this is purely a misconception. Many of our patients return for repeat treatments because they love the results and want to keep looking youthful, and not because they’re substance-dependent.
- You will lose all your facial expressions after Botox: FALSE.
We understand that this is a major concern for almost all our patients, but we resolve it by explaining to them that this is not the case. Yes, Botox injections will relax the muscles that cause wrinkles, but we will only inject the areas of concern so you can retain your facial expressions. Only this time, you’ll frown, laugh or smirk with fewer lines.
- Botox injections will worsen the wrinkles once you stop for good. FALSE.
Once the effects wear off, wrinkle visibility will return. However, Botox will not make your wrinkles worse. If you notice an increase in facial lines and wrinkles, it may be due to the natural aging process.
- Botox injections are excruciatingly painful. FALSE.
You may experience discomfort during the administration of injections, but they’re not unbearable. In fact, most of our patients compare the sensation to a mosquito bite.
By debunking these myths, we hope that you’ll be able to appreciate the true benefits of Botox. To learn more and to schedule a consultation, please contact New Orleans Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery today.
