A nip and tuck aren’t always necessary when it comes to rejuvenation. Dermal fillers and Botox are some of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic options available. They are injectable treatments, performed in our offices without the need for incisions or sedation. Procedures are quick (often less than 30 minutes) and require little to no downtime. If you’re ready to try injectables, you may be wondering if dermal fillers or Botox are right for you. Explore each option below and then call our offices to schedule your appointment.
Is Botox Right for Me?
Botox is a type of neuromodulator that works by relaxing the muscles that cause some wrinkles. Any wrinkle that is caused by muscle activity might benefit from a Botox treatment. These wrinkles will only initially appear after a repeated movement, like squinting or frowning. Over time, however, they’ll become more permanent—visible even when the face is relaxed. We often use Botox to treat forehead creases, frown lines, bunny lines, and crow’s feet.
Dysport is another brand of botulinum toxin we may recommend that has similar results to the Botox brand.
These treatments are quick, and most patients do not find them to be uncomfortable. We can use a numbing cream if you’d like, but you’ll need to arrive about 30 minutes early. Most patients receive Botox/Dysport without the numbing cream, as it is rarely needed. You can resume your regular activities after treatment, or you can relax in our comfortable quiet room.
Your Botox/Dysport results should start to appear just a couple days after treatment. They will continue to improve for about two weeks. Results typically last 3-4 months and can be maintained with regular retreatment.
Botox/Dysport may be right for you if:
- You have wrinkles caused by muscle activity.
- You want to smooth or prevent wrinkles around the eyes, brows, or mouth.
Are Dermal Fillers Right for Me?
Dermal fillers are another injectable option, used to restore facial volume, fill in lines and wrinkles, and shape and sculpt the treatment area. They can also be used to augment and enhance the lips. There are many different types of dermal fillers available. If you’re interested in trying dermal fillers, we’ll recommend the products best suited to your problem areas. We offer a variety of fillers, including Belotero, Juvederm, Juvederm Voluma, Restylane, and Radiesse.
Many dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the skin. It is highly biocompatible and requires no pre-treatment testing.
Dermal fillers are long-lasting, with results that should remain for several months or even a couple years depending on the filler used. We’ll explain the differences between each of your options before treatment.
Dermal fillers might be right for you if:
- You want to restore lost facial volume.
- You want to fill in lines and wrinkles.
- You want to augment the lips without implants.
Dermal Fillers or Botox? Maybe Both!
The dermal fillers or Botox question doesn’t have an either/or answer. Many patients can benefit from both. Botox and dermal fillers pair together beautifully, providing a subtle, non-surgical “liquid facelift”.
