DEEP NECK LIFT IN NEW ORLEANS

People who struggle with loose skin and excess neck fullness yet have good overall cheek and lower face definition can benefit from facial plastic surgeon Dr. Parker Velargo’s innovative isolated deep neck lift in New Orleans. By creating only one incision in the crease under the chin, Dr. Velargo can make the traditional neck lift incisions behind the ears unnecessary.  The deep neck lift can also be combined with a traditional facelift as well for older patients or patients will significant skin laxity.

While most surgeons would recommend simple liposuction or energy based devices (e.g. facetite, thermi, renuvion) combined with liposuction to address a full neck in a young person, this approach has significant limitations.  Such procedures only target the superficial fat of the neck (above the platysma muscle).  Thus, the results are limited to the contouring of just a single layer of tissue in the neck.

During a deep neck lift procedure, Dr. Velargo can rework superficial fat, deep muscles (digastric muscles)  and fibrous neck tissues, enlarged or ptotic submandibular glands, and deep neck fat (under the platysma) to restore optimal neckline contours.  By addressing all layers of the neck, unparalleled neck contours can be achieved often without the need to excise any skin!  It is important to keep in mind, however, that the procedure (done in isolation) does not directly address sagging tissue on the lower portion of the face, such as jowls.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A DEEP NECK LIFT?

A common misconception is that aging is the sole cause of a poorly defined neckline. Unfortunately, many younger patients have never enjoyed a sleek, slender neck, due to factors like genetics. People in their 20s and 30s might notice age affecting their neck skin while they still have good lower facial contour.

In general, healthy nonsmokers aged 20 to 50 with excellent skin elasticity and a BMI below 33 tend to be the best deep neck lift candidates. Dr. Velargo often performs deep neck lift surgery with a buccal fat pad reduction for optimal facial rejuvenation. If you struggle with an overly full or round “chipmunk cheeks,” partly because of excess fat, a deep neck lift combined with buccal fat pad reduction can help slim your facial contours.

The buccal fat pads are walnut-sized fat deposits deep in the cheeks, located just behind your mouth’s corners. Dr. Velargo accesses these inside your mouth through a tiny incision on each side. After removing them, he closes the incisions with dissolvable sutures.

Dr. Velargo typically performs deep neck lift procedures using general anesthetic.

YOUR DEEP NECK LIFT CONSULTATION

During your consultation for a deep neck lift, Dr. Velargo will ask you to describe your concerns about your neck and may ask about other facial problems, like skin tone, facial hollowing, or cheek position. In addition, he will likely ask you to state your cosmetic goals. Precisely identifying what you want to address is the cornerstone of a successful procedure.

Dr. Velargo will review your medical history and may ask for additional information from you – for example, current and past use of nicotine products, including e-cigarettes, nicotine gum, or patches. Dr. Velargo will also pay close attention to your medical history and consider it carefully before recommending neck lift surgery. You may have health issues like high blood pressure and bleeding disorders, or use blood-thinning medications and supplements. Please discuss these thoroughly.

DEEP NECK LIFT RESULTS

Over the weeks and months after a deep neck lift, your incision line will fade and become less noticeable. We will laser the scar as needed in the postoperative period.  Generally, it is pink at the beginning of recovery, but you can hide it with makeup after a week or so. After three or four months, any redness or pinkness subsides, and the incision fades.

While your neck lift’s longevity depends on lifestyle, genetics, ongoing skin care, and sun protection, deep neck lifts are incredibly durable. As you get older, you may seek surgical solutions for other areas of your face, such as your cheeks, eyes, or jowls.
