7 WAYS YOUR SKINCARE CAN HELP YOU LOOK MORE AWAKE
Whether you’re not getting enough sleep or simply look more tired than you feel, your skin care can help you look more awake. Of course, your priority should be to adopt healthier sleep habits. That’s important for your skin and your overall health. Beyond that, there are ways your skin care can help brighten and refresh your appearance to make you look more alert. Here are seven of our key recommendations:
1. OVERNIGHT MASKS
Overnight MasksOvernight masks moisturize and revive your skin while you sleep. You simply apply the mask before you go to bed and let it work its magic while you dream. One of the great benefits of overnight masks is that they have hours to do their therapeutic work while you rest and your skin is clean and free of makeup. At the New Orleans Center for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery, we offer selected medical-grade skin care products. One of our favorites is the Hydracell + Gold Mask, which features ingredients from the earth, including gold and bentonite clay, activated charcoal, Arnica montana flower extract, and Sargassum fusiform extract (from brown seaweed). The mask absorbs impurities from your skin and helps to increase elasticity, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.
2. EYE CREAMS
Eye creams are excellent for treating dark circles under your eyes. The best products include a combination of anti-oxidants and hyaluronic acid to restore your skin by promoting healthy tissue growth. Hydrating Eye Cream from FaceMD™, which we offer at our practice, includes both of these ingredients plus vitamin K-1, which has unique healing properties. It hydrates the skin, smooths fine lines, and brightens the area under your eyes.
We’re talking about more than your morning cup of coffee here. Caffeine applied topically to the skin reduces puffiness and inflammation and boosts the production of collagen. A long-time home remedy for tired-looking eyes has been to apply cold, moistened tea bags below your eyes. Tea contains caffeine, so there’s likely some merit in this idea. For a more refined treatment, you might consider Interfuse Treatment Cream: Eye from SkinBetter Science, which contains caffeine to treat puffiness plus other ingredients to smooth crow’s feet and brighten your skin.
CBD is a hot trend right now — so hot that some sketchy products are on the market. Properly refined CBD in a skin care product reduces inflammation and sebum (facial oil) production. The CBD Recovery Mask is a great way to deliver CBD to your skin. It also includes an enriched blend of vitamins A, C, and E and advanced amino acids, which combine to brighten your skin and promote healthy skin renewal.
5. COLD COMPRESS
A cold compress can help reduce puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. There are many ways to apply targeted cooling to your skin. You can wrap an ice cube in a washcloth and press it gently against the skin under your eyes. You can do the same with two metal tablespoons left in the freezer for a few hours. You can even freeze small blocks of your favorite moisturizer and gently press those to your skin.
6. DERMAL FILLERS
Injectable dermal fillers, including Juvéderm and Restylane, can correct tired-looking eyes by adding volume where it has been lost. Fillers work to correct circles under the eyes by making dark blood vessels less visible. Fillers can also be used to soften lines and wrinkles that may be contributing to a tired look.
7. CHEMICAL PEELS AND OTHER SKIN REJUVENATION TREATMENTS
Chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacials all work to rejuvenate and brighten the skin, making you look younger, fresher, and more alert. All three treatments are offered as part of our spa services. Chemical peels strip off the dull outer layer of skin, stimulating the growth of new skin that is more resilient and more even in tone. Microdermabrasion promotes the development of new skin differently by stimulating the production of collagen. IPL treatments also stimulate collagen production and have the effect of lightening areas of discolored skin.
